Academy Athletics athletes best in the State

The South West Sydney Academy of Sports athletics squad can rightly be labelled one of the best squads in NSW, after its recent performances at the Junior National Championships.
The squad is made up of long distance runners aged between 12 and 16 and often train's 6 days a week, with each athlete being extremely committed and dedicated to improving their individual performance.

All athletes put in an outstanding performance at the Championships, with a total of 9 personal records being beaten over the weekend and another 8 being broken at the NSW Little A's Championships the following weekend.

This was just the beginning of the squads' outstanding results, as two athletes James Constance (16yrs 3000m) and Jordan Doris (16yrs 800m) were titled National Champions. Jordan also took home the silver in the 400m event after being crowned the champion in the 400m race for the previous 3 years running.

Matilda Offord (16yrs 3000m), Sam Griffiths (14yrs 3000m) and Brodee Mate (17yrs 2000 steeple) all took home bronze medals in their respective disciplines.

All athletes put in such an incredible performance but a special mention goes to Troy Chauvin (16yrs 800m) who managed a superhuman performance to break his personal best record and come 4th after being knocked down at the 200m mark.

The Championship was topped off with athletes being given the opportunity to meet Kenyan middle distance runner and Olympic and 800m World record holder David Radisha.

Academy Athletics coach Phil Austin could not be prouder of the performances of each athlete and is looking forward to seeing these stars of the future develop even further.
