Academy to Hit the Airwaves Across MacarthurWritten on the 11 December 2024
South West Sydney Academy of Sport athletes, coach and support staff will soon be heard across the Macarthur region, following a partnership with local Community station 2MCR - The Sounds of Macarthur, which will see the Academy produce a regular sport-focused show, launching in January 2025. Recently, Academy staff Stephen Craig, Catarina Di Ramio, and Tahlia Febbo undertook presenter training with Station Manager Tim and Lina Miller. Craig, who has had past experience as a radio program producer, jumped at the chance to get into the chair and to become better acquainted with the studios equipment. "The opportunity to partner with 2MCR provides us a great opportunity to provide not just promotional opportunities for the Academy and our athletes, but also provide an extension to athlete education adding radio to the training and exposure we can provide athletes in working with the media.” said Craig, adding that the partnership will allow the Academy to promote the achievements of Academy athletes, coach and support staff through on-air interviews. The yet-to-be-named show will also feature interviews with sporting partners of the Academy, including local community representative sporting identities, as well as sports-themed music throughout the show.
Through local media partnerships with organisations South West Voice, The District Reporter and now 2MCR, the Academy is excited by the prospects of growing its promotional reach throughout 2025. Added to the traditional forms of media are recent stats that have showed a near doubling of the Academy's reach on social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn highlighting a desire for content focused on promoting our Academy athlete's successes.
In order to achieve its goal of producing a regular (weekly) show, the Academy is now reaching out to athletes wanting to share their journey with the Macarthur region as it plans the on-air programming which will feature on The Sounds of Macarthur (100.3 FM), with content recording commencing soon. Athletes who are interested in sharing their story should email media@swsas.org.au to express their interest in being a part of the Academy-produced sports show, and include their availability over the December /January school holidays.
