Indigenous Talent Continues to ImpressWritten on the 30 August 2024 by SWSAS The South West Sydney Academy of Sport had the honour to host our annual, and most successful UAA Indigenous Talent Identification day to date, at Minto Indoor Sports Centre in late August. This event allowing the Academy to provide an opportunity for talented individuals showcase their skills across varying sport and engage in Sports science and high-performance testing with the help of Academy Education Partner, Western Sydney University. We were pleased to have the support to run talent identification skill sessions in, Basketball with Community Development Officers from Basketball NSW, Touch/Tag with local Development Officers from Touch Football NSW and Netball with guest athletes from the South West Mounties Magic Premier Netball team. The exceptional calibre of athletes at our Indigenous Athlete Talent ID day has made our selection process incredibly challenging—but for all the right reasons, as the talent and potential of our region’s Indigenous athletes truly stood out to the State Sporting Organisation Representatives, Coaches, and Academy Staff who were present on the day. We are thrilled to announce that the day has identified 43 outstanding athletes from this event, who will be invited to join the UAA Indigenous Athlete Talent Program. None of this would have been possible without our fantastic Indigenous Athlete Program partners in the UAA Group, Steadfast, and Western Sydney University Together, we’re forging a brighter future for Indigenous athletes, inspiring the next generation to reach new heights.
